About the team:
Historically a vital member of Nanaimo’s and Vancouver Island’s dragon boating community, Chix With Stix was formed in 2003, coinciding with the inaugural Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival. For over two decades, we’ve been a fun-loving and diverse team of friendly, yet competitive paddlers.
While we cherish the social and recreational aspects of dragon boating, our team is built on the strong friendships that blossom on the water. Many enduring bonds have been forged within the Chix boat, lasting long after paddlers move on.
Chix With Stix has always been deeply committed to giving back to our community. Our participation in the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival, a major fundraiser for the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation, is a testament to this commitment. Beyond the festival, we’ve made substantial team donations over the years, totalling $28,800.00 as of December 2024. These donations are made possible through crew member fees and the generous support of our sponsors.
Throughout out history, Chix With Stix has evolved into a team that supports its members, welcomes visitors, and showcases the beauty of Nanaimo’s waterfront and the excitement of the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival. We train diligently, paddle fiercely in competition, and revel in the camaraderie that comes with our shared passion. Our race records speak for themselves, demonstrating our consistent success.
