Team name: Hope Afloat Canada (Comox Valley Dragon Boat Society)
Founded: 2002
Team type/Race division: Women’s recreation, Primarily Cancer Survivors
Practice times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 pm
About the team: The team began with the enthusiasm of a breast cancer support group in 2002, who raised community support to bring the first dragon boat to the Comox Valley. We welcome anyone who has had a breast cancer diagnosis, as well as women with any other cancer diagnosis. We also have a limited number of associate members. We are glad to have some original members still paddling with us and are always excited to welcome newcomers to the sport. Out of the boat we participate in community activities related to cancer awareness and care.
Coach: To be confirmed.
Festivals attended: Victor Simonson Nautical Days Regatta (Comox); Sprout Lake Women’s festival and mixed festival (Port Alberni); Race the River (Campbell River), Victoria Dragon Boat Festival; Fish and Game Outdoor Show (Comox Lake); Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival; Gorge Fun Fest (Victoria); Seattle Cancer Cup; Final Fling (Powell River); Alcan Dragon Boat Festival (Vancouver).
