About the team: Flying Dragons is a recreationally competitive women’s dragon boat team, formed in 2006. The focus of the team is to ‘be as competitive as we can be’ while maintaining the spirit of the sport and enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of the team. To compete at races is the reason we train – participating in approximately 5 local regattas each season – but we’re also a fun group enjoying social picnic paddles and annual dry land events.
Coach: Lauren Douglas has been padding dragon boat since 2009 and coaching the Flying Dragons since 2012. She has a passion for bringing out the best in the team and particularly loves coaching and watching the growth of new paddlers.
Festivals attended: We race in local Island festivals in our home waters of Comox, in Port Alberni, Campbell River’s Race the River, the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival, and the Canada Dry Victoria International Dragon Boat Festival.
